What’s News In The MLU? 11/5/2012

Hi everyone,
This week we had some newcomers to What’s News. Great to have some grade three students involved from a mix of grades across the Middle Learning Unit. We introduce our new boom mic, watch Annie speed around the oval and the bloopers were such a hit last week that if you stick with us until the end today…there just may be some surprises again at the end.

Middle K’s Tribute To Maurice Sendak

It was sad to hear the news about the passing of Maurice Sendak. He was the author and illustrator of a range of books. But most notably, Where The Wild Things Are. All the students and the teachers can remember the enjoyment of reading that book for the first time.

Originally, we thought it would be nice to read the book together to mark time. But when Mr K-T asked Mrs T in the library to find him a copy, she returned with a box containing a stitched puppet version of Max and several ‘Wild Things’. Plus some little trees to represent the forest. These had been tucked away in the library cupboards for many a year.

So yesterday Middle K broke into groups of three and over the space of 90 minutes put together our own very special little tribute to Mr Sendak. (The teamwork and enthusiasm showed by everyone was amazing!)

We hope you like it. Please leave us a comment, feedback  or just some thoughts.

What are your memories of reading ‘Where The Wild Things Are’?

Zainab found lots of information about mice. We are reading ‘The Witches’ by Roald Dahl and the main character just revealed his two pet mice. So this topic was right on time!

What’s News In The MLU? – 4/5/2012

Hi everyone,
We had so much fun making Friday’s new episode of ‘What’s News In The MLU’! We got to test out our new boom microphone. We think it was a success. What do you think?

We had a visit from a very special guest. Josh C, ex student from Bellaire, spent some time in the M.L.U. on Friday as part of his Year 10 work experience. So we got to find out what has changed at Bellaire since Josh’s days. Thanks for being part of it Josh. All the best!

As a special treat, we also added a short blooper reel at the end of the episode. Enjoy! And please leave a comment.
